Summer is the perfect time to talk about hydration! We talk to all of our patients about the importance of drinking enough water. Hydration is key to all body functions. And in fact, if you’re feeling fatigued, the first thing you should do is to check in on your hydration. Have you had enough water today?
We recommend starting your day with 12 ounces of filtered water, to rehydrate after sleeping. Why not get creative and infuse that water to wake up your taste buds too?
Some people struggle to drink the recommended 64+ ounces of water every day. Sometimes it’s because they don’t like the taste of water. When this is the case, we encourage adding flavors to water to add some pizzaz.
Infusing your water with fun and tasty flavor combinations adds a little excitement to your hydration routine. Always start with filtered water.
How to Make Infused Water
Â
Categories of flavors:
- Citrus – lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit
- Berries – blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, cherries
- Other fruits – pineapple, mango, nectarine, melon (really just about any fruit can be used)
- Vegetables – Cucumber, celery
- Herbs – basil, mint, lavender, ginger, rosemary, thyme
You can choose one flavoring, or make any tasty combination. The possibilities are endless!
Instructions:
- Choose your container, such as a pitcher or mason jar.
- Add your flavorings. It’s best to cut or crush these so that they release their flavor into the water.
- Add ice, if desired.
- Fill the container with filtered water.
- Let the water sit and absorb flavors for at least one hour. After 24 hours, remove the fruits, vegetables and herbs. The flavored water can stay in the refrigerator for up to 3 more days.
