Tracy R. McCubbin, MD
I needed to put myself back on the “To-Do List”!
I realized from a young age that I was a nurturer and had a calling to serve. Medicine was the right path for me.
I started my career in Emergency Medicine and specialized in this field for two decades.

Over time, I realized that many of my patients had chronic illnesses that needed to be addressed differently from an emergency room setting.
And it wasn’t just my patients. After many years of 60-hour work weeks on a shift schedule, increasing responsibility in the hospital and my own clinical research and publications, I started to experience many of the same issues as my female patients who were in their 40’s (GERD, IBS, stress, depression, infertility, asthma, insomnia, perimenopause, and weight gain).
I was curious about treatment options to help my patients (and myself). I was fortunate to meet renowned physician Andrew Weil, M.D., and began to explore the field of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (now called Integrative Medicine).
Knowledge of this burgeoning field led me to found Kaiser’s Centers for Complementary Medicine (CCM) in 2003. We opened a pilot site in Aurora, CO two days a week, and eventually grew to five locations in the Denver metro area.
After completing a two-year Fellowship at the University of Arizona School of Medicine (the premier integrative healthcare training program), I officially transitioned from the emergency department after 19 years, passed the boards, and moved my clinical practice to CCM.
I felt like I had accomplished a lot and really made a difference in my professional career.
And after struggling with infertility, I finally gave birth to a miracle baby. But like many women, the full workload plus a young family started to take its toll. I never lost my baby weight, struggled to slow down at work, and started to have more serious health issues.
I was exhausted, depressed and my light was flickering out.
I was exhausted, depressed and my light was flickering out. And with a family history of heart disease, I knew I had to change paths if I wanted to see my son graduate college!
I completed my training in Functional Medicine and began to build Radiance Functional Medicine to share what I learned with others.
I’ve built upon my traditional medical knowledge, gained through decades in the emergency room, with other disciplines. I want to share what I have learned about lifestyle (diet, nutrition, herbal supplements, botanicals, exercise and mindfulness), other medical systems like Ayurveda (practiced in India) and Traditional Chinese Medicine, and functional and nutritional lab testing.
I’m a living example of how functional medicine can help you live a full, happy life.
My beautiful 12-year-old son brings me joy every day, and in my free time I do triathlons and enjoy healthy cooking. I learned to say “no” sometimes, and that given the right tools, our bodies can heal themselves.
In short, I began my journey to optimal health and found my light again.
I hope I can help you do the same!
