Perimenopause can begin much earlier than you might expect… 😳

While it`s common for women in their 40s to start experiencing symptoms, it’s not unusual for signs of perimenopause to appear in your 30s, and in rare cases, even in your late 20s.

So, why are symptoms starting so much earlier? One of the key reasons is the rising incidences of obesity and metabolic disorders.

➡️ Premenopausal obese women often have lower levels of estradiol and FSH.
➡️ This is partly because of the conversion of androgens to estrogens in fat tissue.
➡️ Which leads to a negative feedback loop that reduces FSH.
➡️ Consequently, this decreases estrogen production by the ovaries.
➡️ Which then contributes to earlier perimenopause.

Your family history also plays a significant role. If your mother or sisters experienced early perimenopause, you might be more likely to start earlier as well.

Then we have lifestyle factors such as stress, smoking, poor diet, and lack of exercise, all of which can contribute to an earlier onset of perimenopause. These factors can accelerate the decline in reproductive hormones.

Other reasons why you might experience perimenopause earlier than expected include:

👉 Health Conditions
Certain medical conditions, such as autoimmune disorders or thyroid problems, can lead to an earlier start of perimenopausal symptoms. Treatments like chemotherapy or pelvic radiation can also trigger early perimenopause.

👉 Surgical Induced Menopause
If you’ve had surgery to remove your ovaries (oophorectomy), you can enter perimenopause immediately, regardless of your age.

👉 Environmental Factors
Exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals in the environment and diet may influence the timing of perimenopause.

By understanding and recognizing the early signs of perimenopause, you can take proactive steps to manage your health and well-being during this transition. 💗

Ladies, do you know the signs and symptoms of perimenopause? 🧐

Perimenopause can begin several years before menopause, typically affecting women in their 40s, but it can also start in your 30s. Here are some of the 🔑 signs and symptoms you should be aware of:

💗 Irregular Periods
One of the earliest signs of perimenopause is a change in your menstrual cycle. Periods may become irregular, shorter, or longer, and the flow can vary from heavy to light.

💗 Hot Flashes and Night Sweats
Yes - hot flashes can occur BEFORE menopause 😩. Hot flashes are sudden feelings of heat that can spread throughout the body. Night sweats are hot flashes that occur during sleep.

💗 Sleep Problems
Many women experience difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking up too early. Night sweats can further complicate sleep patterns.

💗 Mood Changes
Mood swings, irritability, anxiety, and even depression are common during perimenopause. Hormonal fluctuations can significantly impact your emotional well-being.

💗 Vaginal Dryness and Discomfort
Decreased estrogen levels can lead to vaginal dryness, itching, and discomfort during intercourse. This can also cause urinary issues like increased frequency or urgency.

💗 Decreased Libido
Many women report a decline in sexual desire during perimenopause, which can be linked to both hormonal changes and physical symptoms like vaginal dryness.

💗 Weight Gain and Slowed Metabolism
Changes in hormone levels can lead to weight gain, particularly around the abdomen, and a slowed metabolism. This is why exercise (resistance training in particular) is so important during this time!

💗 Hair and Skin Changes
Hair thinning or loss, as well as skin dryness and thinning, are common symptoms due to decreased estrogen levels.

💗 Memory Problems and Difficulty Concentrating
Some women experience what is often called "brain fog," which includes issues with memory, concentration, and overall cognitive function.
